Data Breaches

Bouygues Telecom S.A. is a French telecommunications company. It provides mobile, landline, and internet services.
Breach Overview
On August 4, 2025, Bouygues Telecom detected a cyber attack on its systems. This incident led to a data breach affecting approximately 5.7 million unique email addresses.
The exposed data includes names, physical addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth, email addresses, and bank account numbers (IBANs). This combination of personal and financial information increases the risk of identity theft, targeted phishing attacks, and financial fraud. The company stated that all affected customers have been notified.
With names, addresses, and phone numbers exposed, individuals may receive unsolicited communications or be targeted by social engineering attempts. The inclusion of bank account numbers (IBANs) creates a direct risk of financial fraud, as this information can be used to attempt unauthorized transactions or set up fraudulent direct debits. Dates of birth can be used in conjunction with other data for identity verification bypasses.

Next Steps
First, change passwords for any online accounts where you used the same or similar credentials as those associated with your Bouygues Telecom account. Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) wherever possible, especially for email, banking, and other critical services. This adds an extra layer of security beyond just a password.
Monitor your bank and credit card statements closely for any unauthorized activity. Given that bank account numbers were exposed, regularly review your financial accounts for suspicious transactions or new accounts opened in your name. Consider placing a fraud alert or credit freeze with credit bureaus if you are concerned about identity theft.
Be highly suspicious of unsolicited emails, phone calls, or text messages, particularly those claiming to be from Bouygues Telecom or other financial institutions. These could be phishing attempts designed to trick you into revealing more personal information or installing malware. Do not click on suspicious links or download attachments from unknown senders.
